Overcoming Limiting Beliefs and Fostering Confidence with Ipek Williamson

-

Today, we have the pleasure of hosting Ipek, who joins us from Ontario, Canada. Ipek is celebrating her third year as a proud mentor within the GLEAC Community, and her passion revolves around guiding individuals through the complexities of modern life. As a coach, mentor, meditation advocate, speaker, and author, her mission is to bring the world closer to calm, one beautiful soul at a time.

In this special session, Ipek shares her wisdom and insights on setting goals, conquering self-doubt, and building unwavering confidence as a leader.

Identifying and Addressing Limiting Beliefs

Our conversation begins with the topic of limiting beliefs. Ipek acknowledges that leaders often grapple with these self-imposed mental barriers, stemming from past experiences, fear of failure, or the influence of others. She emphasizes the importance of questioning these beliefs, challenging their validity, and reframing them into empowering thoughts. Ipek introduces her AQRVP method, which stands for Awareness, Questioning, Reframing, Visualization, and Practice, as a practical approach to overcoming limiting beliefs.

Building Confidence as a Leader

Confidence is a crucial attribute for effective leadership. Ipek underscores the link between confidence and competence, highlighting the importance of continuous personal and professional development. She suggests that leaders should embrace vulnerability, acknowledge mistakes, and be authentic to build trust and respect within their teams. Ipek also stresses the significance of celebrating small successes and accepting setbacks as part of the growth journey. She encourages leaders to practice positive self-talk, monitor their self-talk patterns, and replace negative thoughts with affirmations.

Strategies for Goal Setting and Decision-Making

Ipek then delves into strategies for setting clear and achievable goals. She introduces the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goal-setting framework, emphasizing its role in providing direction and motivation. Ipek also discusses the OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) framework, which involves setting high-level objectives alongside specific measurable results. This approach aligns organizational goals and facilitates progress tracking.

Ipek advocates for the breakdown strategy, where ambitious objectives are divided into smaller, manageable steps. This approach prevents overwhelm, boosts motivation, and enables better progress monitoring and adjustments along the way. Her wisdom, passion, and structured insights have provided valuable guidance on overcoming limiting beliefs, fostering confidence, and setting clear goals as a leader.
