Javed Khan completed his BSc in Geomatics Engineering in 2009, he was the recipient of the BPTT LLC Scholarship and graduated with honours. In his early career he developed a passion for Project Management, earning an MSc in Project Management with distinction. He has published scholarly articles in the field of Value Engineering. Javed entered the Public Sector of the Govt of Trinidad &Tobago in 2013 as Head of the Project Mgt Unit.

Tricky Workplace Situation Handled
- I would apologize for the room being dirty and offer late check or a hotel credit to defuse the situation. Then I would send room service to clean the room immediately.
- One of the Programs I manage is the construction of Community Center. Prior to the construction I would engage all stakeholders to ensure that everyone feels part of the situation, regardless of social status in the community. We give everyone a chance to contribute their views with shows equality and empathy.
- We can collaborate with the common understanding of achieving a common goal.
- Initially I would not be pleased about having to collaborate, but because of my professionalism I would make things work and get the desired outcome.
- As the Head of the Project Management Unit, a Senior Manager that reports to me did not like the fact that I was 25 years younger than him and didn't want take order from me. The way manner in which I addressed him with respect and kept involving him in my decisions, asking him for his opinion allowed him to gain respect for me, thus making him an important team player.
- Find your switch off ritual, for me it is when I reach home to my daughter.
- My way of switching off, I have a 2 hour commute back home, so I would listen to podcasts on things that I like for example Fantasy Football, this allows me to cleanse and clear my mind.
- Incentives are a very effective way to boost staff's morale and encourage them to meet deadlines and work beyond the call of duty.
- My company has a Program called the Employee Assistance Program to deal with stress and mental health. The situation can be improved by the Executives meeting with staff periodically to show appreciation.
- Try to find your happy place. My happy place is when I reach home to my 4 year old daughter, no matter how stressful my work day was, I always look forward to coming home to her and I understand the importance of managing my work stress so that she can have a better future.
