The company does not identify the risks and devise plans to overcome them. A better way is to evaluate them and have strategic plans to overcome them.

Planning is the most important aspect of finding the right balance between tactical and strategic issues. The strategy should be set at the end of each year with scheduled reviews of performance against KPIs. This will help the company in making sure they are on the right track, evaluate their performance and pivot into different strategies where needed.

I would share experiences of companies of the same size and nature. Lessons learned and what can be improved. I would also do a SWOT analysis with the person and go through them in a discussion manner.
