I would teach this skill as if I'm teaching a 6 year old about making their bed on their own. Extrinsic motivation would be in the form of giving them a treat for doing it. Intrinsic motivation would be them enjoying the whole process as they have the creative liberty to design their room every day in a different way (placing toys somewhere, books elsewhere and so on)

How I would teach this to a kid who broke their toy: 1. Which toy out of the entire set is broken and how did it happen? 2. Is the toy broken beyond repair? How likeable was the toy to the kid? 3. If the toy can be fixed, where can we go to get the same done? If it can't then, where can we get a similar toy? 4. Going to the repair shop/toy store whichever is applicable 5. Getting the toy repaired/ new toy.
