I would help them use the four quadrants of time management and divide their tasks along the two axes of urgent/not urgent and important/not important.
There are various ways to do that. Time management is key of course. Being able to set one's priorities is also very important. maintaining "me" time is crucial, whether the person decides to pray, meditate, exercise, or connect with others. recognizing that the balance is that of body, mind and soul.
A balanced life leads to a happy life. when a person is able to balance responsibilities and duties with family time and personal time, they are able to recharge and reenergize and stay positive. It is about personal satisfaction and the feeling of well being. It's balancing the mind, body and soul that brings about equilibrium.
The patient is already troubled and in pain, and sometimes confused about their case. It is important to be able to understand their situation and feel with them so we can offer them the right comfort that will accompany their treatment. It will make patients feel more at ease and more comfortable, it will ease their emotional and psychological pain and that will help them accept treatment and react to it more positively.
The healthcare professional should use words like "I understand" and "I comprehend" and "I know that you have a lot of responsibilities.
Then, the healthcare professional should focus on the positive aspect of the patient getting better fast so they can actually go back to their responsibilities.
One time, a patient was silent and not talkative at all, so I assumed that the patient was ok. in fact she was not. I could have asked questions and enticed them to talk. they needed the attention and the listening ear and I should have done that.
Patience is valuable virtue. Being patient while attentively listening to someone else is key. Asking the right questions and offering the right dose of emotional and psychological support.
