Tricky Workplace Situation Handled
- There might not be an active communication with the person but some ground rules, alignment of values and goals can be a good start to collaborating with them
- 1 remember the enemy is just a person - they are not evil 2. Hook on to the one thing you like or respect about the person 3. Turn them around - examine the reason why you don't like them 4. Separate the person from the work personality
- The project or the goal would fail. Collaboration requires open and honest communication between both parties . If we don't like each other, we are less likely to listen or taken feedback from each other. In reality, the project will end up being a failure since we were not able to work well together
- Working with someone who I don't like adds up an extra dimension during work. We will be less likely to give and get feedback, less likely to do favors, and also to share any recognition for the work. All these things factor in when working with someone who I don't clique with
- I had a goal last year that I missed because the person I was collaborating with was difficult to work with and we didn't work well together. He was also causing problems for everyone in my team and so he lost my respect as well. Towards the end of the year, I realized this was causing more harm than good as it was hurting my team objectives. I took a step back and spoke honestly with his best friend at work. He and I had a good relationship and he was able to give me very good advice on how to tackle this person. The thing I learnt was to humanize the enemy - they have good qualities too. If we are unable to find them, its best to rely on trusted sources to show you what you can't see. Once you are able to get that out of the way, it becomes a little easier to be the mature one in the relationship and take the first step towards mending the way
- The business will burn down the ground or stay stagnant. Open mindedness brings in creativity, flexibility, agility and growth. Closed minded leaders will continue to lead the team in the ways they know and won't change that. It doesn't foster ideas or change
- The product owner I collaborate with had a different idea of the project KPI vs what I thought it should be. I felt that this difference of opinion should be resolved so I asked him qualifying questions so it ensures that both he and I are thinking for the business to win.
- This was always important but since remote work has become a norm, working together is a lot more important. Its very easy to feel disconnected when teams are remote. Going remote has helped virtual hiring and on boarding and so coming together is easier than before. But to ensure that people are happy and productive its essential that they feel connected and are able to collaborate well.
- People or teams work in a silo so their work and decisions are done only keeping in mind their own understanding and goals. This can be quite dangerous as we work in a business that relies on relationships, collaboration and communication. Working in a silo also hampers information exchange between teams. has broken feedback loops and in the long term results in the team and businesses failure
- Creating cross functional goals is one way of ensuring teams work together. IF they are working towards common goals then the likelihood of collaboration are higher. In addition to that, we could also create cross function teams or tribes that work towards a common business output with smaller team goals that are different but contribute towards the main aim.
- It can look foolish in the eyes of the customers. If different teams communicate differently to the same customer, the customer's trust will reduce as they will understand that the company as poor collaboration amongst departments. Silo mentality reduces efficiency and contributes to the failing of the company.
